Training

Dr Paramasivan completed his medical degree at the University of Adelaide, where he graduated with First Class Honours in his Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery, before undertaking specialist surgical training across South Australia’s major public hospitals. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in 2024.

International experience

In 2025, Dr Paramasivan undertook a Clinical Fellowship in Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear and Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston. He subsequently continued his subspecialty training with a Clinical Fellowship in Otology and Skull Base Surgery at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, University of Cambridge, completed in 2026. Together, these fellowships provided extensive experience in complex ear, sinus and skull base surgery within two internationally renowned academic centres, working alongside recognised leaders in the field.

During his international fellowship training, Dr Paramasivan was teaching faculty for the Harvard Sinus Course and Cambridge Temporal Bone Course, and was invited international faculty for the British Rhinological Society Meeting, European ENT Dissection Course and UK Frontal Sinus Masterclass. Through these roles, he has continued to contribute to the surgical education and training of ENT surgeons from around the world.

Academic passion

Alongside his clinical training, Dr Paramasivan has maintained a strong commitment to research and academic surgery. He completed a PhD in Surgery at the University of Adelaide in 2020, investigating the host–microbe interface in chronic rhinosinusitis under the supervision of Professor PJ Wormald, Professor Alkis Psaltis and Professor Sarah Vreugde. His doctoral research was recognised with the University of Adelaide’s Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence, the Ron Gristwood Medal and the RP Jepson Medal.

In 2024, Dr Paramasivan was awarded the prestigious Passe & Williams Surgeon Scientist Fellowship, a competitive award supporting two years of advanced international clinical and academic training. This fellowship supported his subsequent training at Harvard Medical School and the University of Cambridge.

Dr Paramasivan has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications across otology, rhinology and skull base surgery, with work published in leading journals including The Lancet, The Laryngoscope, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Allergy, and International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology. He has presented his research at national and international scientific meetings across the world.

His ongoing involvement in research and academic surgery allows him to bring contemporary evidence, techniques and advances in the field into his clinical practice.

Philosophy of care

Dr Paramasivan believes that good care begins with understanding both the condition and the person experiencing it. He takes the time to listen carefully, understand each patient’s history and explain their diagnosis and treatment options clearly, so they can make informed decisions about their care.

Ear, sinus and skull base conditions can be complex, particularly for patients who have already undergone previous treatment or sought multiple opinions. Dr Paramasivan’s approach is to consider the full picture before recommending a path forward, favouring thoughtful, evidence-based and durable solutions over unnecessary intervention or short-term fixes. His aim is for every patient to leave their consultation feeling heard, well informed and clear about the next steps in their care.

01 · Otology

Ears

Dr Paramasivan treats a broad range of conditions affecting hearing, the ear and the balance system. These include hearing loss, chronic ear infections and chronic otitis media, cholesteatoma, eardrum perforations, otosclerosis, tinnitus, vertigo and balance disorders, and Eustachian tube dysfunction. His practice also encompasses implantable hearing devices, including cochlear and middle ear implants, as well as disorders of the facial nerve such as Bell’s palsy and selected conditions requiring facial nerve decompression.

  • Facial nerve disorders (Bell’s palsy, facial nerve decompression)
02 · Skull base

Lateral Skull Base

The lateral skull base is a complex region surrounding the inner ear and important nerves and blood vessels at the base of the brain. Dr Paramasivan manages conditions affecting this region, including vestibular schwannomas (acoustic neuromas), cerebellopontine angle tumours, petrous apex lesions, glomus tumours and jugular paragangliomas, facial nerve schwannomas, and benign and malignant tumours of the temporal bone. Management is tailored to the individual condition and may involve surveillance, surgery or multidisciplinary treatment in collaboration with neurosurgery, oncology and other specialist teams.

  • Vestibular schwannoma (acoustic neuroma)
  • Cerebellopontine angle tumours
  • Petrous apex lesions
  • Glomus tumours / jugular paragangliomas
  • Facial nerve tumours (facial nerve schwannoma)
  • Temporal bone tumours (benign and malignant)
03 · Rhinology

Nose & Sinuses

Dr Paramasivan manages the full range of nasal and sinus conditions, from common problems such as nasal obstruction, a deviated septum and allergic rhinitis through to complex inflammatory sinus disease. His practice includes chronic rhinosinusitis with or without nasal polyps, recurrent acute sinusitis, fungal sinusitis, loss or reduction of smell (anosmia and hyposmia), and recurrent nosebleeds (epistaxis). He also manages benign and malignant tumours of the nose and sinuses, as well as epiphora (excessive tearing) where treatment involves the nasal and sinus pathways.

Anterior Skull Base

The anterior skull base forms the boundary between the brain and the nose and sinuses, and conditions affecting this area often require highly specialised, multidisciplinary care. Dr Paramasivan manages cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks and tumours involving the anterior skull base, including pituitary tumours and sinonasal tumours that extend to the skull base. His practice also includes selected orbital tumours and conditions requiring orbital or optic nerve decompression. Where appropriate, many of these conditions can be treated using minimally invasive endoscopic approaches through the nose, often in collaboration with neurosurgical and other specialist colleagues.
